SUMMARY:Krewe Babalu Galveston Poster Contest
DESCRIPTION:The Krewe Babalu Galveston Poster Contest supports local artistry as well as the spirit of Mardi Gras Galveston. \nDuring the month of September\, Krewe Babalu runs an annual contest challenging area artists to come up with a design for their official Mardi Gras poster.  The winner will receive a cash prize and a feature in the Galveston Daily Newspaper. \nOf the entries submitted\, the winning poster will be chosen for its incorporation of that years theme and the essence of Galveston as well as masterful beauty. \nThe winning poster will be on display at the Mardi Gras Galveston Poster Unveiling Party.  Click HERE for more details on the unveiling event. \nCLICK HERE TO VIEW ARTICLE ON LAST YEARS WINNER \n \n2018 Krewe Babalu Poster Contest: \n  \nFirst Place Prize: $200.00 to the winner \nRules for Contest: \nThe Theme will be A Salute to the Little Easy  (Mardi Gras type theme with Galveston and what it has to offer)  The artwork can be any media of art\, watercolor\, acrylic\, pastels pencil\, charcoal or digital (must be in Color).  All artwork must be mounted on a hard backing. Art can be on canvas\, linen\, panel\, paper\, board or similar flat format. Include a description of the media used as well as a brief (100 words or less) bio of the artist to be submitted with artwork. The contest will from August 28\, 2017 to October 2\, 2017. All artwork will have to be submitted by no later than October 2\, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The contest is open to all high schools and Colleges and amateur artists in Galveston County. The art will become the property of Krewe Babalu. Each entry should be at least 18 X 24 in size\, vertical or horizontal. Each participant will have to sign an art waiver that they understand the art becomes the property of Krewe Babalu. The entire Krewe will make the final decision on the artwork that is selected by casting a ballot for their favorite. The original first prize artwork will be framed and presented at the poster unveiling along with the posters to be giving out. \nAnnouncement of Winner \nThe submissions will be voted on at our October meeting and the winner will be announced at our November meeting. Also the winner will be featured in the Applause section of the Galveston Daily News.
